Racing here since the 1970s

Circuit
Sloten

A closed 2.5 km lap along the Sloterweg. No traffic, just racing.

The heart of WVA is a closed 2.5 km circuit along the Sloterweg in Amsterdam. No traffic, virtually no corners and almost flat: perfect for criteriums at every level.

The circuit

  • Length: 2.5 km per lap
  • Elevation: almost flat, only the overpass (6 m at most)
  • Corners: virtually none, you can pedal through the crossing at the overpass
  • Surface: asphalt in good condition, checked every year
  • Capacity: up to 120 riders per race

Safety

During races the circuit is fully closed to other traffic. First aid is on hand at the bigger races.

Getting there by bike

Easy to reach by bike: about 15 minutes from the city centre via the Vondelpark and the Schinkelhaven. The Sloterweg stays fully open to cyclists, and the old entrance by Sloten village still works by bike.

Getting there by public transport

Bus 192 from Sloterdijk station to the stop Slotermeerlaan, then about a 10 minute walk to the circuit.

Getting there by car

  • The old car park near Sloten village can no longer be reached from the A10: the end of the Sloterweg is now for local traffic only.
  • Park for free at the large car park by the velodrome (Stadion Sportpark Sloten).
  • From the car park, walk alongside the overpass and through the zigzag gate.
  • Follow the path and you come out right on the circuit.
  • Walk anticlockwise to reach the clubhouse.

A bit of history

WVA was founded in 1933. The circuit itself was built in the 1970s and, according to club sources, was the first closed cycling circuit in the Netherlands.
